MARAM AL MASRI was born in Syria. Collections of her poems have been published in her native land, in Tunisia, in Lebanon; and translations of them have appeared in French, Spanish, Corsican and, recently, the Bloodaxe Books edition in England. Maram is a love poet, most directly so, and her idiom derives from the grand tradition of Arab love poetry. In her work, the marvelous melodiousness of Syrian Arabic is richly attained. Maram has read her works at festivals throughout the world, from Argentina to Ireland and Italy, and has received the Adonis Prize of the Lebanese Cultural Forum.
